fit4future foundation (2023)
In brief
The SOL Foundation supports fit4future who intends to scale the existing “School Programme”, integrating new schools each year and increasing reach and impact in the consequence.
Each participating school is provided with a play bin. It is the centrepiece of the school programme and contains 20 different pieces of movement and sports equipment for active school breaks and sports lessons. The equipment (balls, rackets, skateboards, moon hoppers, ropes, etc.) promotes primary motor needs as well as the children’s poly-sport skills.
Problem to be tackled
The problem to be tackled is the physical inactivity of children and its consequences which include aspects as overweight / obesity, cardiovascular problems, postural defects, osteoporosis, concentration problems, social exclusion, or psychological problems.
Local partner
The School Programme works as following: a school registers with fit4future, a three-year contract signed by the teaching staff and the school management, the entire offer including events, materials and documentation is free of charge for the schools.
Compulsory is the further training for teachers (twice per year) and events for every new school including kick-off event and an introduction to the play bin; each school can also book events of their choice, and/or each school can always renew its contract for a further three years.
Beneficiaries
According to the most recent overall evaluation (2023) of the school programme, fit4future is about equally popular in all communities considering the beneficiaries’ socio-economic background.
SOL’s contribution
With a support from The SOL Foundation, fit4future will be able to further extend and expand their existing School Programme and integrate approximately 35 new schools each year for play bins as well as specific introduction events for children and teachers as well as the associated supporting materials.
Project partner
The purpose of fit4future is defined very broadly, sport, social issues, education, science, culture. Since the beginning, fit4future has been limited to and focused on promoting physical activity and – in general – health among children; important focal points are the topics of equal opportunities and inclusion of physically and cognitively impaired children. The projects include the school programme since 2005, snow4free since 2005, fit4future sport camps since 2013 or “KiKo” since 2019, cooking classes for children in their free time and during the holidays.
